Sword Fighting Show Down

I shrugged. "Better than I have recently. it was sufficient," I answered back hsortly, speaking in a sour tone.

"Good, good.." I said, not really knowing what to say. I layed back onto the ground and stared at the stars.

"They're beautiful, aren't they?" I asked. "I remember when my mom and I used to sit outside at night, just staring at the sky. She would point out all the different constallations, and I would just sit on her lap and listen." I said, that picture I had found earlier stamped into my mind. I hadn't seen a picture of her in so long, and I'd almost forgot what she looked like. That picture was a curse;all it did was open up old wounds.

I sat in silence for a while, contemplating what had been said. "Memories ease the pain inside, I suppose. They keep loved ones near, even where you are leagues away..." I trailed off, feeling quite abashed. "But, yes, they are quite beautiful. It tells you that however large the expanse of darkness, there is always a light, no matter what the size." I bit my lower lip. "When it's dark enough... you can see the stars. It's what my mother used to tell me."

"Where I come from.....it's a dark place in the meaning of most of it's inhabitants, but the lights in the city make it hard to see most of the stars. Where we lived.....we lived in a mansion, a little ways away from the lights of the city. We would lie down on the grassy hill our house sat on, just staring at the stars for hours and hours. It was sort of a thing my mom and I had....." I said, my voice wistful for the old days, when everything was perfect.

I smiled solemnly, reminiscing over long passed things. "You shouldn't dwell on these things too often. Open up your eyes, don't get lost in the past."

I squinted my eyes, feeling those salty tears coming. I had learned to push things back, to not think about what happened. But like I said, that picture was a curse. I wiped at the corner of my eye, looking away so she couldn't see.

"I don't usually act like this....it's just....something happened today, and it just opened things up. I know to just push things back, keep my head in the present. That's what I've learned to do, and I need to keep with it." I said, my voice cracking a little.

I shrugged. "Get some sleep, it'll help you think better. I'm surprised you actually DO think, with that pea sized brain of yours." My comment was obviously in jest, and I laughed, before leaving the area slowly.

I sat up.

"I don't need any sleep. Sleep just brings nightmares. And with everything that's happened to me, especially this past year, I don't need more nightmares." I said, my voice serious. I really didn't. I had been having nightmares lately about things that had happened, or things that had yet to happen. I sighed and stood up.

"I'm going to that lake we sae earlier. I need to wash up." I said. "Watch Lynn." I said, glancing over at her and smiling. I then turned around and began to walk towards the direction of the lake.

I slapped my forehead. Now I was the baby sitter? I rolled my eyes and lay down staring at the fire presently in front of my, hoping the Lynn figure would wake up soon. I wanted to be free.

(*cough* That's your cue, Star. )

I wandered out of the forest into the field we had been at earlier. It seemed like so long ago, but it had only been that morning. I looked around, and my eyes caught on the lake. I walked over, glad the moon was there as a light. I got to the lake and took off my shirt. I left on my pants and such, just in case one of the girls for some reason showed up.

I put one foot in the sparkling lake and found it surprisingly warm. I soon submerged my entire body except my head into the lake, sighing.

I grew bored as the night drew on. I pulled out Ember, my sword, and slipped it out of its blood red ruby sheath. I read the inscriptions carved into it by Mother. "May the light shine on you, and lighten your path", it read in her elegant runes. I smiled grimly, rudely reminded by Jonathan about my past. I scowled meticulously, furstration written across my face.

(Sta-arrr, are you the-errrre? Sorry about the really short sentences in the post, they seem really disjointed.)

I forced my eyes open, and looked around. It was still dark; I must not have been asleep long. As I sat up, too quickly, my head started to spin. I looked around, stiffling a yawn.

(That's alright. You're here now. )

Finally... I muttered, staring boldly at Lynn. I bit the inside of my cheek apprehensively, wondering what her next move would be. I cocked an eyebrow in distaste.

I began to wash my face, but remembered too late about my scar. I have a reddish scar that extends from right around below my left eyebrow, straight down across my eye to just below my eye. I had gotten it in a....past experience. I usually cover it with this..."makeup" I suppose you could call it. I looked at my dark reflection in the water and cursed loudly when I saw that I had washed the makeup away. I sighed, thinking about how the girls would react to it. I got out of the lake, putting my black shirt back on. I didn't really care that I was soaking wet. I trudged back to camp, moving almost as slowly as I could.

(Yes, he really does have this scar.)

I noticed that Elandri girl sitting close by. "You're...Elandri, right?" I asked, trying to sound as friendly as I could.

"Who did you expect? The sugar plum fairy?" I declared dryly. "But yes, they name me that." I was vaguely aware of the dark figure approaching, and seeing that it was Jonathan.

(I have to leave in a few minutes. Curses...)
I sighed, letting it slip. I was just about to ask where Jonathan was when I saw someone approaching the campsite.

(Ah, okay. See ya when I see ya, Star. When will you be back on.)

I sighed, putting my head in my hands, staring up at the sky. It was finally breaking dawn, after a long night of no sleep.

(I don't know....Maybe sometime later tonight, maybe tomorrow. Not sure..'^^)

When I looked over to the figure, I could tell it was Jonathan. So no worries. I sighed, lying back down on my back, looking up at the stars.

I rolled my eyes. It's just like a male, to walk as slowly as humanly possible. For heaven's sake. I closed my eyes, and lay back down, trying to get some more l\sleep before later in the morning.

I soon got to the campsite, much to my disliking. I looked at both of the girls. I sat down before either of them looked at me. I knew one of them would notice soon.

I sat slowly. Quickly noting Jonathan's presence, I noticed the long, herringbone scar across Jonathan's face. I grinned slightly, chuckling to myself. "Mr. Classy, now, eh?" I raised a black eyebrow in jest. "Lovely. Who decorated your face with that?"

Once Elandri spoke, I opened my eyes and sat up. I wasn't even aware that Jonathan was back until now. And then I noticed the scar on his face. "What happened?!" I asked, probably sounding a tad bit shocked.
