Chance Meeting-An Avatar Story

(Hrm.....I thought they had books......^^' My bad.)

~Summer~

I tried to stand up, but the man kicked me in the side, letting me fly into his table, knocking it over. I stood up shakily before he could get closer, and took out my swords. I spoke, my voice shaky.

"St-stay away from me!" I shouted, my voice full of.....fear. I couldn't believe it. Of all the things I thought I would feel when finally confronting this man, fear was not one of them.

(Hmmm...I don't think so....but it's been a while since I've actually watched the show...'^^)

~Star~

I thought of a type of deffense, just in case I wasn't able to fight for some reason. I couldn't think of any, so I HAD to win this fight. And no turning back. I couldn't just run out of this situation....

All of the guards were now back to their fighting positions. I was focusing on one of them; the guard who killed my father. I would take care of him last. But, for now, the rest of the guards.

With the move of my arm, I sent a gust of wind towards the four guards, sending three of them crashing back into the wall. But one of them was still coming towards me. I looked around, hoping to find something I could use. I couldn't find anything. So I ran towards the guard, and ran into him, knocking him into the ground. I pulled back my arm, and, using the knife-thing...well, let's just put it this way; he wasn't going to be working at this prison any longer....

(Hehe...'^^ )

~Summer~

He actually looked much different than I thought he would. He looked quite young, probably only in his mid-twenties.
Which would mean he had only been in his late teens or early twenties when he had killed my parents. He obviously was strong, seeing as though he had been a General then and was so young. He spoke, his voice condescending.

"Why? Scared?" He asked, smirking. He rushed at me, swinging his sword at my side. I was somehow able to block him. That's exactly what he had wanted. With my one hand busy, and being so flustered I didn't think I had the coordination to swing the other one at him, he took a dagger from his belt and swiftly jammed it into my side. I let out a small gasp of pain, and stumbled back. I dropped my swords, and stared at him, my eyesight a little fuzzy.

He put his dagger back in his belt, and put his sword on the side of the overturned table next to him. He stepped towards me, then spoke.

"You look familiar......Do I know you?" He asked, squinting at me. I couldn't help but let out a small chuckle, that came out almost nervous sounding.

"Do you know me? ...No, I'm just some stranger that decided to attack you." I said, not being able to help my sarcasm. He glared at me, then his eyes widened slightly, but only for a moment.

"Wait.....You're that little girl. That one from the raid I led....what, eight years ago?" He said, almost smiling. Not a nice smile, just one showing that he was glad he had remembered who I was.


(Woah.....that was long!)

(Heh, it WAS long...)

~Star~

Now there were only three guards left. This shouldn't be too long. If I could only push down that stupid feeling of regret that's building up in my stomach....

I didn't really want to have to kill the rest of the guards, though it's what they deserved. So I managed to get them both down, injured. So I, conviently, found some rope, and tied two of them up, throwing them in a corner in the room. Now the guard who killed my father....

~Summer~

"Oh, look, he remembers." I said, trying to hide my fear.

"So, what do you think you're going to do? Kill me? Fat chance of that happening. You're obviously injured. You would never stand a chance, I'd kill you in a second."

"Shut up!" Was all I could manage, trying to swing my sword at him. I missed terribly.

After I had thrown the two guards in the corner, I focused on the one guard left. The one that brought me here in the first place. The one that killed my father.

He was just standing there, an easy target. I walked up to him, trying to hold a little of my anger back. It didn't work so well.

I walked over to the guard, who's eyes were wide. He probably thought I was demented. I probably looked like it. Using both of my hands, I pushed the guard into the wall, and held him there.

"You never answered my question." I told him, my voice level.

"W-what q-question?!" he asked, a little surprised.

"Why did you kill my father?!"

~Summer~

He chuckled, almost amused by my endeavor. He grabbed me by my arm, twisting it behind my back(She had taken a swing at him, so I figured she'd probably be next to him). I was already in a lot of pain, and I couldn't keep it in any longer. I let out a long, painful, bloodcurdling scream.

"Give up yet?" He asked smoothly.

~Star~

I was still in a rage, about to do something -not sure what yet- to the guard I was pinning against the wall. Then I heard a painful-sounding screech coming from somewhere in the building. It didn't sound near, but it didn't exactly sound too far....

(Heh, I would've typed more, but I have to leave in two minutes, and I couldn't think of anything else at the moment...'^^)

~Summer~

I tried to think of something witty to say back, but all I could force out was:

"N-no."I said, my voice weak, and probably sounding pretty pitiful. He sighed, and rolled his eyes in a mock way. He dragged me over to the door, opening it. I tried to protest, but I felt as though I couldn't move.

~Star~

I heard a door nearly slam open a few moments later. I had no idea what was happening, but I couldn't risk leaving the guard "unintended". I frantically looked from the guard to the closed door and back a few times. But I was surprised when I looked over at the door for the third time.
Instead of it being closed, it was open, and three figures were standing in the doorway....

(Hmmmm.....)

~Summer~

"Wh-what are you doing?" I asked weakly, looking up at him.

"I know that you have friends. Way I figure, if they're your friends, they're not going to risk your life. I can use you to make them surrender. Now shut up." He said, then purposefuly let my head knock into the wall as he turned the corner into the stairwell. I was now barely concious, and I knew I wouldn't be able to stop him.

(Uh-oh....)

~Star~

As I swayed my body to face the door, I took one more look at the guard, to make sure he wasn't going anywhere.

I was almost relieved as I saw who was standing in the doorway. It was Katara, Sorin, and Sokka. They must have followed me here, probably thinking I was crazy.

Someone started talking, but I wasn't sure who; I silenced them all in a second. I could hear a faint voice coming from somewhere close. I held my hand up, to stop whoever was going to say something. Everything was quiet....

I couldn't tell exactly what the person was saying, but it didn't matter. Someone was in trouble; I just knew it. That gut feeling was telling me something. Or trying to, at least. And the only person I could think of? Summer. She had dashed off as everyone tried to suppress me. And apperantly, I was the only one who noticed that.

"Guys!" I said, trying to point somewhere down the hall. That was where the noise was coming from. "Summer!"

Nobody seemed to catch on at first. I pointed urgently down the hall again. This time, as everything grew silent again, there were a few more words from the faint voice, and Sorin caught on. He dashed off down the hallway as Katara ran behind him, screaming in a hushed tone, "Hey, wait up!"

~Summer~

I could hear footsteps approaching, and all I could think was:

Don't!

I look up weakly, and could see Sorin. His eyes widened when he saw me, then he glared at the warden. He got into a stance, but the warden held me up, grabbing his dagger. Yanking me up higher, so that I was against his chest, he held it to my neck.

"Uh-uh. Wouldn't try it if I was you, kid. You neither, Water Tribe." He said, and I realized that Katara had followed Sorin.

~Katara~

I had followed Sorin once I realized what was going on. Summer was in trouble....

Once Sorin and I got to where Summer was, I saw a man holding her up, a dagger to her throat. My eyes widened at first. Then they narrowed, and I glared at the man. How could he do something like this?!

~Star~

After I watched Katara and Sorin run off, I realized that Sokka stayed behind. I looked at him questioningly.

"Aren't you going to go help?" I asked, a little confused, if not somewhat angry.

"No." Sokka replied easily. "I'm staying here with you."

Now I was confused.

"....Why?" I asked quizically. Sokka looked back at the guard, then at me again. Then he noticed the body of one of the guards lying there on the floor.

"You....you killed someone?!" he asked, shocked. I didn't answer at first. Then I replied:

"Why are you staying behind?! You should be helping Katara and Sorin! You don't know what kind of trouble Summer could be in!"

~Sorin~

"Let go of her!" Was all I could shout in my rage. I couldn't believe I had let this happen. How did I not notice that she had left us? There was nothing I could do, though. If he had Summer, all I could do was watch.

"Now," He started, "Where are the rest of your little friends? And I suggest you tell me the truth." He said, tightening his grip on Summer a little. She looked at me, her eyes glazed over and obviously in pain.

~Star~

I apperantly couldn't hide the one thing I wanted to in my voice. A smirk slowly spread across Sokka's face.

"You're jealous, aren't you?" he asked, smiling in a teasing way that I hated some kind of bad right now. ()

"What?! No!" I said, glaring at the floor. "How could you even think that?!" I asked, keeping my eyes on the floor, crossing my arms. I actually felt quite childish.

To avoid making eye contact with Sokka, I turned again to look at the guard. To occupy my time, and get off that subject, I started stomping towards the guard, the anger returning again. But, before I could do anything, Sokka stopped me, turning me back around.

"Star, violence isn't going to solve anything here." He said, the teasing in his voice still there a little. I grimaced.

(Hehe....)

~Sorin~

I glanced at Katara,and whispered.

"We have to, Katara....I...We can't let anything happen to Summer." ()

Before she could answer, I turned back to the warden, scowling at him.

"Fine," I spat out, and turned around, turning my head back as I spoke. "Follow me." And I started to walk down the hallway.

~Katara~

I stopped Sorin when we were a little ahead of the man, who was apperantly the warden. Or so I guessed. ()

"Are you crazy?!" I asked in a hushed tone. "We can't risk the lives of everyone else! There has to be another way to get through this."

~Star~

"Fine." I said, grimacing again. I turned around anyway, and then found some extra rope that I hadn't used to tie up the other two guards. I pushed the guard to the ground, and quickly tied him up, throwing him in an empty corner ( '^^).

Then I murmmured, "I can't believe you think I'm jealous....WHY would I be jealous, anyway?" I asked, already knowing the answer to that.

~Sorin~

"I am not risking the life of Summer. Don't worry; we'll figure some way out of this. Let's just see what he does." I replied, whispering.

~Katara~

Let's see how many people we had at stake here at this moment. Well, there was Summer, obviously, and then Star and Sokka. Along with Aang, Toph, Star's mother, Sorin's father, and the little girl Star and Summer found. Things weren't looking so good for me right now....

"...Fine!" I said in a rasped whisper. "But remember....I'm trusting you on this one. Which means if ONE SINGLE THING goes wrong, YOU'RE the one I'm blaming!" I nearly yelled in a hushed tone.

~Sorin~

I ignored her. I decided that I was going to lead him to Star and Sokka first. Maybe one of us could try to sneak out afterwards and go get the others. We got a little ways before the room where Star and Sokka were, and I could see them.

~Star~

Before Sokka could answer my almost-rhetorical question, I noticed Sorin and Katara up a little ways from the room we were in. I nodded my head towards them, and Sokka looked in my direction. His look was confused, the exact oppisite of mine. This couldn't be good....

~Sorin~

As we came to the room, I glanced behind my back at the warden. Obviously, he was still there. I looked back at Star and Sokka and gave them an "I'm sorry" kind of look.

~Star~

Once Sorin and Katara got closer, I noticed that another man- a guard or something- was following them. Great....

A few seconds later, I noticed the "I'm sorry" kind of look Sorin shot at Sokka and I. I could almost feel the reaction on my face. My expression had changed from realization to anger. I shot that glance back at Sorin and Katara, hoping they'd get the message. I knew something was about to happen. And whatever it was, I already didn't like it....

~Sorin~

The warden stepped in front of me, glancing back and forth between Sokka and Star. He smirked, basically threw Summer into the wall, and spoke.

"Well, this should be easy. Why don't you give up now? Save us a whole lot of trouble."

That's when he noticed the guards on the ground. His eyes widened for a second, then his expression changed to almost...anger.
