Chance Meeting-An Avatar Story

~Sorin~

"Um.....sorry?" I said, not really sure what was up with her.

"Do you want to...leave?" I asked.

~Star~

"No....I can't leave now....I might as well get it over with....." I knew why I wouldn't go and talk to them. Something they had done to me; something that I swore I would never forgive them for....

"I guess it IS bad to hold grudges," I said, mostly to myself. I saw the two starting to walk off, still bickering, and I thought of something. This could be my only chance to make things...right again. I had to do it. But I couldn't make my body move. For a few seconds, it was like I was frozen in place. But finally, I could move. Slowly, I started making my way closer to the two. I knew I had no voice at this point, so there was no use in trying to call their names.....It seemed like everything was moving in slow motion. But I finally made it to the two of them. Their backs were turned, so they couldn't see me coming, I was sure. They were STILL bickering, so I tapped the girl on the shoulder. As she turned around, I felt a million times smaller than I was.

"Katara?" I whispered, my voice barely audible....

~Sorin~

I turned my head to Summer-who still had her arm around me-, raising my eyebrow.

"Should we follow?" I asked.

"Sure." She answered, so we walked after Star. Just as we came up next to her, the pretty girl was turning around. Star whispered "Katara", which was apparently the girl's name.

~Star~

I hadn't even realized that Sorin and Summer had followed me. But I could barely pay any attention to them.

"Star?" Katara asked, surprised. All I could do was nod my head.

"Look, I'm sorry for....what I did the night you guys left. It wasn't the right thing, and I said things that I didn't mean...." I said, unable to think of a perfect way to appologize for what happened that night, not too long ago. "I just hope you're not still mad at me...."

When I was concious of Sorin and Summer standing behind me, I turned around, looking a little embarressed, I'm sure. But I quickly turned back around to Katara and Sokka.

"Look, Sokka....I know I probably hurt you most with my words and actions. I just...couldn't handle what was happening....and......Listen, I'll understand if you're still mad. I'd be mad at myself, too. It's just.....I'm really sorry. And I hope you can forg-" I started, but was quickly interupted by a tight hug. A few seconds of silence, I spoke again.

"I hope you can forgive me...." I said, my voice hoarse by the coming tears.

~Sorin~

Summer and I stood there, listening to Star's little speech. Neither of us were really sure of what she was talking about. Suddenly, the guy, who's name seemed to be Sokka, hugged Star. The girl, Katara, looked at Summer and I. I spoke.

"Uh....hi." I said nervously. "I'm Sorin, and this is-" I started, but was cut off.

"Summer." Summer said, nodding her head a little as a way of saying "hello".

~Star~

I heard Sorin say something to Katara, but it was kind of hard to make out. I was a little embaressed about what just happened, so I'm sure I was blushing a little.

"Are you guys....friends of Star?" Katara asked, friendly as good be. I was just glad to see that she wasn't mad. I still had the rest of them to appolagize to. Speaking of that....

"Hey, where's everyone else?" I asked, looking around.

~Sorin~

Before I could answer, Star spoke. She asked something about where the "others" were. Before anyone could answer, I spoke.

"Others?" I asked, curious.

"And, yeah, we are friends of her's." Summer added.

~Star~

I didn't answer Sorin when he asked about the others. I wasn't sure if Katara would want me to or not.....So I left it up to her. Instead of answering, I turned back to Sokka.

"Can we go....uh....somewhere else and talk this over real quick?" I asked him. He nodded his head.

"Uh....Sure....?"

I pulled him by the arm quite a few yards away, so Katara, Sorin, and Summer couldn't hear us.....

~Summer~

Sorin and I stood there awkwardly for a few minutes with that girl, Katara. Star had walked a little while away with that Sokka guy, and we couldn't really hear what they were saying.

~Star~

I could barely hear Katara explaining to Sorin and Summer that the "others" I was talking about were just their other friends.

I turned back to Sokka, and started talking in a hushed tone.

"Look, I shouldn't have acted like that when you guys left.....It just wasn't right. I want to appolgize....That's all I can say...." I said, hesitant for words. But he seemed to understand where I was getting at.

We spoke like that in hushed tones for a few more minutes. Then Sokka spoke up a little.

"I know you're probably angry at me, so...if you have any anger towards me, go ahead and let it out someway. It'd be easier like that, right?" he asked, rubbing the back of his head nervously. I smiled sheepishly, then spoke.

"Yeah, I guess." I took a deep breath, and Sokka got prepared for the barrage of angry words he thought I was about to throw at him. Instead, I pulled my hand back, and slapped him hard on the face.

"Ow! Why'd ya do that?" he nearly yelled.

"Letting out my anger," I said simply, laughing. He laughed weakly, almost embarressed.

"Yeah, I guess I deserved that, huh?" He rubbed his cheek, and I could see a faint red mark starting to appear.

( Yes, something almost like this really happens in my story. )

~Sorin~

Katara had said something abou the "others" just being their other friends, but I wasn't really paying attention. I watched Star and Sokka talk for a minute, then Star pull her hand back and slap him on the face. I turned back to Katara.

"Any idea why she just hit him?" I asked.

~Katara~ (I figued this part'd be easier like this '^^ )

I had been watching Star and Sokka out of the corner of my eye. Then they boy -Sorin was his name, I think- asked why Star had just hit Sokka. I shrugged.

"For a good reason, I'm sure," I said, trying not to laugh. I could tell it wasn't anything to serious, which made it kind of funny.

~Sorin~

"Ah," I answered. I could tell she was trying to resist laughing, but I couldn't tell why.

~Star~

After a few seconds, I starting walking back over to Katara. When I got close enough, I spoke up.

"So, where is everyone else?" I asked, eager to see them.

~Summer~

Sorin and I just stood there, me still leaning against him with my arm around his neck. We kind of felt a little....awkward. Well, at least I did. Finally, Star walked back over, and asked that Katara girl where their other friends were.

~Star~

"Oh, they're back at our "campsite". They both thought it'd be easier if Sokka and I came to buy food, so we wouldn't blow our cover. Well, that, and Toph was too lazy to come with us," Katara said, slightly annoyed. Toph? Toph was back? But I thought she had left....

"Oh, I see," I agreed, nodding my head.

~Summer~

"Who's Toph?" Sorin blurted out. I jabbed him in the ribs, slightly annoyed.

(OH!!!!! I just remembered!! In my fan fic, I might have it so that Sorin likes both Summer AND Toph! I could probably put that in this...what do you think?)

(Oooh, I like that idea!! )

~Star~

"She's just one of our friends," I explained simply.

"She's an Earthbender," Sokka added. I didn't even realize he was right behind me, and I kinda jumped a little.

~Sorin~

I didn't bother to answer. Instead, I shot Summer a confused look and rubbed my ribs. I shook it off.

~Star~

"Right...." I said, the akward silence quickly taking over.

~Sorin~

"Soo..." I said, trying to get rid of the awkwardness.

"You guys are from the Water Tribe?" I asked.

~Star~

"Yeah, Sokka and I are," Katara replied, trying to get rid of the awkwardness as well. A few more seconds of silence passed.

"I know! Let's go back to your little "campsite". Then we could introduce Sorin and Summer to the others." I said, the first part sarcasticly, the second part meaningfully.

~Sorin~

"Yeah, that sounds like a good idea." I said, chiming in.

~Star~

"Good," I said, glad someone was agreeing with me. "Let's get going!" I smiled. I turned around, and started walking forward. A few seconds later, I stopped, and turned back around.

"Which way are they?" I asked, nervously. Katara giggled, then got infront of me and lead the way. I was glad to see things hadn't change too much since they left.

~Summer~

Sorin and I walked behind them, me still limping. We soon got back into the forest, where we started walking down this path.
