Chance Meeting-An Avatar Story

~Summer~

Out of the corner of my eye, I noticed the warden starting to wake up. I had to do it right then, or else I wouldn't have a chance. I quickly put the sword to his nexk, almost surprising him.

~Star~

When Summer put the warden's sword to his neck, he seemed surprised. It's sad that I was almost enjoying watching this. If he had done to Summer's family what I thought he had done, then yeah, he deserved it. If someone wouldn't have stopped me, I would've done the same thing to the guard.

~Summer~

I stared at the man, and he smirked. He spoke, his voice not wavering in the least.

"Go on, do it." He taunted. He probably figured I was too scared or something. He spoke again.

"Oh, how poetic. Killing me with the same sword I killed your worthless little parents with." He said, and I snapped.

"THEY WEREN'T WORTHLESS!" I yelled, but I didn't kill him yet. I couldn't move. I almost wanted to see what he would say next.

~Star~

I almost felt like pushing Summer forward here. I didn't want to watch this warden person beat her down any more, whether it be physicaly or emotionaly. No, Summer and I weren't already the best of friends. It's just that I knew what she was going through. Maybe not exactly, but pretty close.
And I would know from experience that people don't take it lightly when someone comes in and kills their parents, much less their whole village. I knew the rage that was left behind. I knew how it felt to want revenge, no matter what it would take.
And I couldn't just stand here, letting Summer basically get pushed around by the man who killed her parents. If it was me, the warden would already be dead.

But this wasn't me. This was Summer. And she had to take care of this however she felt was best. It almost made me feel bad.

~Summer~

"They weren't? Really. Then why was your idiot of a father begging for mercy as I shoved my sword through him? If he wasn't worthless, then he would've been fighting me, not trying to make me spare his child." He said, smiling. I could feel tears welling up in my eyes, but I wasn't going to cry. I pushed the sword a little farther into his neck, making him choke.

"And what about your mother? At least she tried to attack me. Of course, she only got in a scratch before I put my sword through her chest, but at least she did something. Either way, they were both worth-" But before he could finish, I shouted again.

"STOP IT!" I screeched, and before he could speak, I shoved the sword through his neck. I could practically hear his breathing stop.

~Star~

Just like the whole time, I was watching Summer. When Summer finally killed the warden, there was some sort of odd feeling inside me. I wasn't sure what it was, but I'm sure it was close to relief or something. But I'm not sure....

When Summer had finally killed the warden, I could also hear a soft cry or whimper or something from behind me. Mariko! I had forgotten all about her! But now, I could tell that she was obviously upset.
I rushed over to my mother's side, because she was the one holding Mariko. I could almost see tears swelling up in her big eyes.

"W-why did he stop breathing?" she asked, her voice full of a child's innocence. I hadn't even realized she was paying attention, but she obviously knew when the warden was dead. And for her question, I had no answer.
I took her from my mother, and held her in my own arms. "Why?" she asked again.

"Ah, Mariko." I said, my voice a whisper. "Everything happens for a reason. And this man was a bad man. He killed Summer's parents. We couldn't let him do anything else bad to anyone else." I continued, my voice still a whisper. It was harder to explain to a child why you or someone else had just killed a man. Especially when the child didn't know that the man was evil. I sighed, then turned back to Summer and everyone else, before walking down the hall a little ways. I had to calm Mariko down....

~Summer~

I fell down to my knees, half from exaustion, half from emotion.

I am not going to cry I kept on telling myself. Lot of good that did. I felt tears inch down my face, and heard someone approaching from behind me.

(Hmm....)

~Star~

I tried to calm Mariko down. It turns out that she was actually just tired or something, because she was fine in just a few seconds. She dozed off, though. See, that's one reason I sometimes hate kids. Okay, I shouldn't use the word "hate", because I don't "hate" anything....

I walked back over towards everyone else, Mariko asleep on my shoulder. I watched Sorin slowly aproach Summer, and it almost looked like Summer was crying....

~Sorin~

I'm not sure how I felt. I was...mad at Summer for yelling at me, but I don't know...I couldn't be mad at her for long. When she fell down to her knees, I started to walk towards her. I put a hand on her shoulder and she looked up at me.

~Star~

I wasn't sure what to do. I could just stand there, not doing or saying anything. Or I could do something "productive", and hurry up and finish what I needed to do here. Now that I had cooled down enough, I figured I could face the guards without being tempted to kill them.

~Summer~

"I-I'm fine," I said, standing up. I wiped my eyes and forced a small smile. I wasn't going to start sobbing or something in front of all of these people.

~Star~

Summer said she was fine, but I wasn't so sure of that. But it's not like I was going to go get in her way. I like my life.

I handed Mariko over to Sokka, and walked slowly back into the room where the guards were still tied up, the one still lying on the floor. He had no chance of living. He was still breathing shallowly, but I could tell he didn't have very much longer to live.
It almost made me sick to my stomach, not like I was going to be literary sick, but sick with guilt. So I kept walking, trying not to look at him, and made my way to the one guard in the corner.

~Sorin~

I nodded, and Summer started to walk towards the others. I followed, then spoke.

"Hey...where'd Star go?" I asked.

~Syra~

I looked around, and, once that boy said something, realized that Star had gone missing again. I sighed. Everyone else shrugged in answer to the boy's question.

~Star~

I took the few steps that seperated myself from the guard. As I towered over him, he asked what I wanted this time.

"You're not going to k-kill me, are you?" he asked, half of him being serious, the other half being sarcastic.
I shrugged, and said:

"I don't know." Then all of the kidding disappeared, from my voice and my expression.
"But you didn't give my father that same choice, did you?"

~Sorin~

"Maybe we should look for her.." I suggested.

~Star~

I stooped down a little, so I could look the guard in the eye.

"No, you didn't give my father the choice of life or death. You took his life, like it was nothing out of the ordinary. Like it was usual.

"But, for you, I'm sure it wasn't out of the ordinary. I'm sure it was usual. You took people's lives daily, like it was no big deal. Like they weren't humans; they weren't equel to you. They weren't loyal to the Fire Nation. So why should they deserve to live?

"So what happened to your wonderful career? Did it get too boring for you? Did you get tired of taking people's lives? Or did you realize what you were doing was wrong? Did you finally get your head straight?"

By this point, I had straighten up again, and I was pacing left and right in front of the guard, not letting him out of my sigh. He just listened to my speech, the fear slowly fading in his eyes. He realized I wasn't going to do anything to him. He thought I was just going to give him a little pep-talk. Well, if he got off lucky, that'd be all he'd be recieving from me.

(No, no! ^^' I was trying to think of what to write, then I kinda forgot...I've been having stuch a writing block lately. I can't think of ANYTHING oog to write! - -' But, no, I'll post something later. Sorry.)
